Jenai Merenz Marek is the League City, TX based author of the novel, The Dangerous Voyage of Gup the Sailor. She is currently working on the book’s upcoming sequels, and is inspired by her coastal community’s rich pirate history and lore. She skillfully weaves incredible tales of sailing adventures and oceanic wonder.
Apart from being an author, Jenai is also a mother to an only son and wife to her salty-soulmate. Together, her family enjoys surf, kayak, and offshore fishing. She’s a proud angler who started her writing career as a professional blogger, featuring “fishinistas” (women who love recreational and sport fishing… and looking good doing it! It was a five year blog, that dedicated it’s writing to prove that fishing was not “just a man’s hobby/sport.”) She also periodically hosts a family-centered fishing show on her YouTube channel, MommaShark & The Hook Up. Sadly, that fishing show has been put on hold after her family suffered a huge loss during Hurricane Harvey back in 2017, and until further notice will not be adding any new videos. Finally, Jenai is also a member of her local pirate guild, the Railean Pirates, and annually volunteers at a local fishing tournament for breast cancer support, called the Sisters Helping Sisters.
Jenai is obsessed with the ocean. Not only for the sea’s real and scientific wonders, but for the great unknown and mystical possibilities it may contain below the surface. Every day, Jenai’s life on the coast inspires her–whether she’s targeting her favorite species in local waters, tagging sharks with friends for research, volunteering at fishing tournaments for charity, or simply writing novels inspired by the salty world she loves–the ocean is Jenai M. Marek’s sanctuary.
“You can be whoever and whatever you want on the waves … the sea doesn’t judge.” -Jenai M. Marek
